Environmental discussions, expensive prices and expensive fuel costs cannot shake the status symbol. The automobile has the most supporters in southern Germany in particular.
Autoland Germany: 82.8 percent of the approximately 40 million households nationwide have at least one car, as the ADAC announced in Munich on Tuesday. And almost a third of households (29 percent) have two or more mobile vehicles. The car club relied on data from a study "Mobility in Germany", which the Infas Institute in Bonn had carried out for the Federal Ministry of Transport.
Lesser role in city-states
Baden-Württemberg in particular loves cars: 88.6 percent of all households there have a car on their doorstep or in the garage. The households in Bavaria and Saarland are also well supplied with cars, at 87.2 percent each, reported the ADAC.
In the city-states, on the other hand, the car naturally plays a smaller role. In Berlin, for example, only 58.8 percent of households have their own car, in Hamburg 66 percent and in Bremen 72.4 percent. (dpa / tmn)
