The Toyota Auris did not study for a long time. Two months after the world premiere, the Japanese presented the series version of the Corolla successor in Bologna.
Toyota unveiled the production version of the new Auris at the Bologna Motor Show. Nine and a half weeks after its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show, the successor to the Corolla, which will be available from March 2007, is now ready for series production. According to the Japanese manufacturer, the five-seater hatchback is on a completely new platform. The car has a wheelbase of 2.60 meters and is 4.22 meters long. Its trunk has a capacity of 354 liters and can be expanded to 777 liters by folding down the split backrest. Up to ten shelves and storage compartments in the interior should provide a further 32 liters of storage space.
Two diesel and two gasoline engines
At the market launch, the Auris, which is available as a three- and five-door model, is available with two diesel and two gasoline engines, according to Toyota. The units cover a performance range from 71 kW / 97 PS to 130 kW / 177 PS. The top model is the 2.2 D-4D-Cat common-rail diesel, which develops a maximum torque of 400 Newton meters, reaches a top speed of 215 kilometers per hour (km / h) and is supposed to consume 6.2 liters on average.
According to Toyota, the Auris will be produced in Europe and for the first time in this class will be equipped with a knee airbag on the driver's side as standard. There is also ABS, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution and the VSC stability system.
Corolla drives on
With the Auris, however, the Corolla does not completely disappear from the scene. The Japanese want to offer at least the new notchback sedan under the old name. According to information from corporate circles, it uses the same technology as the Auris, but is presented as Corolla with a few weeks' delay.
