The Porsche supervisory board will decide on the construction of the future super sports car 918 Spyder on Wednesday. The market launch of the hybrid vehicle is planned for 2014 when the control committee has given the go-ahead, reported the "Financial Times Deutschland" on Friday, citing insider circles. The sports car maker has been working on the start of series production of the eco sports car for some time.
Indirect confirmation
Porsche boss Michael Macht had indirectly confirmed the impending starting shot a few days ago in a conversation with the news agency dpa: “I could imagine that the 918 Spyder will be developed in Weissach and built in Zuffenhausen. But there is currently no decision by the supervisory board. Works council chief Uwe Hück had also announced a quick decision on the construction of the 918 Spyder after the agreement on securing the location at Porsche.
The sports car manufacturer had already presented the car as a study at the Geneva auto show in spring. According to industry circles, the super sports car, which is expected to cost a good half a million euros, will be hand-made in a new factory at Porsche's headquarters in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen and will emit less CO2 than a small car.
