The Chinese market is already a second home market for Audi. In four years at the latest, sales there should exceed those in Germany.
The VW subsidiary Audi plans to sell more cars in China than in Germany in just a few years. «In 2012/13 we should sell around 250,000 vehicles (there). China will then be number one worldwide for Audi,”said Sales Director Peter Schwarzenbauer of the“Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”and“Welt”. This year the VW subsidiary expects sales of 150,000 cars in China, which would be almost 30 percent more than in 2008. This makes China the second largest market for the company after Germany.
Audi sees itself in the lead
With a share of 40 percent in the premium segment, Audi has the leading position in the country, explained Schwarzenbauer. The customer base is growing. Only 20 percent of the cars were bought by government organizations and authorities in 2009, 80 percent ended up with private customers.
According to a magazine report, the carmaker also wants to become significantly more profitable in the longer term. Audi boss Rupert Stadler is aiming for a long-term operating return on sales of ten percent, reported “Manager Magazin” on Thursday in a preliminary report. In the first nine months of the current year, the VW subsidiary reported a return of a good five percent. A company spokeswoman did not want to comment on the target value.
The spokeswoman did not want to confirm the higher sales forecast for the current year mentioned in the report. In the magazine it said, citing internal forecasts, Audi is aiming for around 950,000 sales this year. The spokeswoman repeated the last statements of the Audi boss that they would sell 925,000 cars, possibly a little more. (dpa)
