The high maintenance costs for a car stimulate the business of car sharing companies. Some providers are currently "running into the booth", announced the federal association.
In view of the high fuel prices and the overall increase in the cost of living, more and more drivers are sharing a car. The car sharing companies speak of a positive trend, some also of a strong increase. Citizens now use car sharing less for reasons of environmental protection, most of them wanted to save money above all, according to the industry. The providers of shared cars have also raised their prices because of the higher fuel costs, usually by one or two cents per kilometer.
Increasing prices are driving us customers
"Several providers have told us that they will run into their booth," said a spokesman for the German CarSharing Association based in Hanover. "The general rise in prices is driving us customers," said a spokesman for Cambio CarSharing, which is active in Bremen, Bremerhaven and Oldenburg, among others. The number of customers increased in the first six months of the year as much as in 2006 and 2007 together, said the managing director of “Green Car” in Göttingen, Andreas Schmidt. Car sharing users pay a fixed fee per month - from around five euros upwards. There are also costs per kilometer traveled and hour booked. The fuel costs are included.
