For the last time according to the now more old criteria, the EuroNCAP auditors tested a number of new models. The results are to be proud of. On the other hand, the protection provided by the car seats was poor.
The Ford Fiesta has demonstrated the best crash behavior among the small cars now tested. The new Ford from EuroNCAP receives five out of five stars for occupant protection, four out of five for child protection and three out of four stars for pedestrian protection. The Alfa Romeo Mito also receives full stars for adult safety, three trophies for child safety and two trophies for pedestrian protection. The second Ford Ka model tested received four, three and two stars. At the Dacia Sandero, the judges award three, four and one stars.
Balanced compact
In the “Small Family Car” category, all three test items received the highest rating for occupant protection: Peugeot 308 CC, Renault Mégane and VW Golf each received five stars. When it comes to child safety, the Mégane gets four stars and the other two only three. On the other hand, the Golf is ahead in terms of pedestrian protection and receives three stars where its competitors only get two.
Safe family cars
The larger family cars also impress with their good crash behavior. Honda Accord and Opel Insignia score five stars for occupant protection and four for child safety each. When it comes to pedestrian protection, the Honda with three stars is ahead of the Insignia, which only made two stars shine.
Ford Ranger has some catching up to do

The van Mercedes-Benz Viano receives four stars for occupant protection, three for child safety and one for pedestrian protection. The SUV Volvo XC60 receives five, four and two stars. The Ford Ranger scores comparatively poorly with two, three and two stars.
Insufficient crash protection in the seat
For the first time, EuroNCAP has also tested car seats for their crash behavior.
The shocking result: only five of the 25 seats tested received the rating “good”. These include Volvo XC60, Alfa Mito, VW Golf, Audi A4 and Opel Insignia. Suzuki Splash, Daihatsu Terios and Peugeot 308CC did particularly badly. (mid)
