Fiat and the PSA Group have presented the new generation of their panel vans. The market launch will take place in January.

Fiat director Sergio Marchionne and PSA CEO Jean-Martin Folz presented the new model family of their compact panel vans on Tuesday. As Peugeot announced in a press release on Tuesday, the vehicles will go on sale from mid-January 2007. They succeed Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy and Fiat Scudo, of which over a million units have been sold since 1995.

Different bodies

This panel van model family is available in various body styles with a volume of five to seven cubic meters and a payload of 1000 and 1200 kilos. As was said at the event at the French production site in Valenciennes, the two manufacturers will also be expanding their range to include a new type of car: this fully glazed station wagon should be like a "minivan" in XXL format and offer space for up to nine people.

The box vans are manufactured in Valenciennes, France. The plant, which is operated by PSA Peugeot Citroën, employs 4,400 people. The MPVs for the Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat and Lancia brands are also assembled here. 440 million euros were invested in the production facilities of the new model family. Up to 130,000 units can be produced in this plant per year.
