In Germany, every third vehicle failed light tests. Above all, there were defects in the front lights.

Every third car in Germany is on the road with a defective lighting system. This is the result of the 2007 light test jointly organized by the Central Association of the German Motor Vehicle Industry (ZDK) and the German Traffic Guard (DVW). Nevertheless, there could be no all-clear, because extrapolated to the entire vehicle population, around 16 million vehicles are affected by light deficiencies.

Most flaws at the front

With a quota of 23 percent, the front lights top the list of defects, 8 percent of the vehicles were driving “blind” according to the ZDK - that is, with two defective headlights. Around 15 percent were "one-eyed" with a defective headlight. The rate of defects in the rear lighting was 11 percent, and 5 percent of drivers drove with a defective brake light. Against the background of the test results, the association calls on motorists to ensure that the lighting system is intact, especially in the dark season. (dpa)
