Toyota is tackling the Prius again, especially in North America. The Japanese automaker emphasizes, however, that the action is not a recall.
The world's largest car manufacturer Toyota has to repair hundreds of thousands of cars again. Around 650,000 hybrid cars of the Prius series, in which the cooling pump had to be repaired, are affected worldwide, said a company spokesman on Tuesday in Tokyo and thus confirmed corresponding media reports. However, it is not a question of a callback, but rather a "voluntary" customer service. The safety of the drivers is not impaired in any way.
70,000 vehicles in Europe affected
The North American market, where around 390,000 cars have to be repaired, is again particularly affected. The dealers were informed on Monday, said the spokesman. Another 180,000 Prius are affected in Japan, 70,000 in Europe and 7,000 other cars in Oceania. Toyota's image suffered from the recall of more than 8.5 million cars due to sticking gas pedals and slipping floor mats, especially in North America. (dpa)
