It looks great. The new S60 will almost certainly be one of the attractions at the Geneva Motor Show next spring.

The Swedish manufacturer has published the first pictures of the new Volvo S60 a few months before the world premiere of the mid-size sedan at the Geneva Motor Show (March 4th to 14th). Production will start in the summer of 2010 in Ghent, Belgium. In terms of design, the new one continues the departure from the corners and edges that were once typical of the brand: flowing and rounded shapes and the coupé-like sloping roofline define the silhouette of the four-door model. As with the S60 Concept study presented at the beginning of the year, there are also double headlights and a crisp, short rear. However, the doors that open in opposite directions have disappeared.

Safety first

Much emphasis is placed on security. A collision warning system is celebrating its premiere in the five-seater, which for the first time recognizes pedestrians as well as other cars. It is designed to prevent accidents with pedestrians at low speeds by means of automatic emergency braking. A new 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine with 132 kW / 180 PS developed by the parent company Ford is used for the drive. As before, the main competitors for the Swede are the German premium models such as the Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3 Series. Prices are not yet known, but like the predecessor, they should start at around 28,000 euros. (mid)
