Nissan launches a new injection system for small gasoline engines. It not only helps to save fuel, but also to reduce manufacturing costs.

In 2010 Nissan launched an economical and inexpensive fuel injection system for small gasoline engines. The so-called "Dual Injector System" injects the fuel directly into the cylinder and should be significantly more economical than the intake manifold injection that has been used up to now.

No high pressure pump necessary

Unlike direct injections from other manufacturers, the Japanese use two valves instead of one injection valve. The division of labor possible in this way means that the expensive high-pressure pump that is necessary with conventional systems can be dispensed with.

This should reduce production costs by around 60 percent, which makes the use of fuel-saving technology attractive even in engines with a small displacement. So far, direct injection has mainly been used in engines from 2.0 liter size. When and in which models the double injection will be offered on the German market is still unclear. (mid)
