The Lower Saxony State Chancellery has filed a criminal complaint because of a missing file on the VW emissions scandal. "We have initiated a preliminary investigation against unknown persons on suspicion of theft," said a spokeswoman for the Hanover public prosecutor's office on Wednesday of the German press agency. The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported on the missing file.
Theft "as the most obvious variant"
Whether it was actually stolen or just misplaced was initially an open question. In the State Chancellery, however, according to dpa information, the theft is suspected to be “the most obvious variant”.
According to government spokeswoman Anke Pörksen, the file was "last consciously seen" on October 9th, and was then reported missing on October 12th by the clerk responsible. “The hand file only contained printouts and duplicates of documents, most of them are available on the Internet, but also internal notes on legal issues, no supervisory board documents. In this respect, the loss of the reference file is annoying, but not very problematic,”said Poerksen. An employee survey that has already been carried out has so far not provided any concrete results. (dpa)
