BMW Overhauls Engine Range Of The 4-series

BMW is repositioning itself with the 4 series. The engine range is modified and the eight-speed gearbox is now standard equipment on two models.

For the new model year, BMW is renewing the engine range of the 4 Series: The top engine of the Coupé, Cabrio and Gran Coupé from March is the supercharged 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder with 240 kW / 326 hp. The 440i Coupé accelerates to 100 km / h in 5.2 seconds, with the optional automatic transmission it is 0.2 seconds less. The 8-speed Steptronic is standard equipment on the 440i Convertible and Coupé.

Engines are becoming more economical

In addition, two revised petrol units are now used in the Coupé, Cabrio and Gran Coupé: the 420i continues to produce 135 kW / 184 hp and, with 5.8 liters, now consumes 0.3 liters less than before in the Coupé. The 430i (previously 428i) increased by 5 kW / 7 PS to 185 kW / 252 PS, the 430i Coupé with this engine consumed half a liter less.

In addition, there is the latest version of the medium-sized diesel: The 425d Coupé now develops 165 kW / 224 hp and has 450 Newton meters more torque, which is noticeable in the new sprint of 6.5 seconds (automatic: 6.1 s). According to BMW, the consumption reduction is 0.4 liters, the 425d needs 4.6 liters according to the standard.

Price changes are not yet known. However, prices should move slightly upwards. The cheapest way to currently drive a BMW 4 Series is the 420i for 36,750 euros. (SP-X)
