Toyota Modernizes Pickup Hilux

Toyota is cleaning out the Hilux at the turn of the year. The sixth generation of the pickup can be admired at the Dakar Rally.

Toyota lifts the Hilux. A more elegant body design and an upgraded interior should bring the pickup out of the commercial vehicle corner. In addition, the standard equipment has been expanded. The prices for the packhorse start at 21,420 euros.

Two diesel engines for the Toyota Hilux

Two diesel engines with 106 kW / 144 PS and 126 kW / 171 PS are available as well as a manual five-speed or automatic transmission and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The performance of the small diesel was increased by 24 hp thanks to the use of a turbocharger.

At the same time, consumption was reduced by one liter to 7.3 liters, which corresponds to a CO2 reduction of 25 grams to 194 grams per kilometer. Since the market launch in 1967, the Hilux has been sold over 13 million times.

The pickup can be seen from January 1st at the Dakar Rally. The former Dakar winner Dirk von Zitzewitz as co-driver and his long-time partner Giniel de Villiers, who triumphed with a VW Touareg in 2009, start for the "Imperial Toyota" team in Argentina with rally-ready prototypes of the new Toyota Hilux.
