The SUV segment grew despite a declining market over the past year. Now Renault also wants to cut a slice of the cake.
Renault plans to bring its first SUV to dealerships in September. The car with the name Koleos will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show from March 6th to 16th. The technical feature is the “All Mode 4x4 System”: Depending on the surface, this all-wheel drive directs up to 50 percent of the drive force to the rear wheels, announced Renault Germany in Brühl near Cologne. Under normal conditions, however, the car runs with front-wheel drive.
Two diesels, one gasoline engine
The driver can also deactivate the all-wheel drive - or order the Koleos in a version that only has front-wheel drive. According to the company, the equipment also includes electronic aids for driving downhill or for starting uphill. For the engines, you can choose between two diesel units with 110 kW / 150 PS and 127 kW / 173 PS as well as a gasoline engine with 126 kW / 171 PS.
The petrol version has a ground clearance of 20.6 centimeters, the diesel models 18.8 centimeters. The load space holds 450 liters of luggage, with the rear seat folded down, the load volume increases to 1380 liters. A horizontally split tailgate should make loading easier. In addition to a so-called two-zone air conditioning system, further equipment features also include a panoramic sliding roof with a size of 0.75 square meters.
On Megane platform
According to Renault, the Koleos was developed together with Nissan and Renault Samsung Motors in South Korea. The all-wheel drive system is a Nissan development that is also used in the X-Trail model. The basis of the car is a platform that is also used for the Renault Mégane and Scénic models. (dpa / gms)
