Toyota Names Price For Its GT 86 Sports Coupé

The wait will end on September 15th. Then Toyota brings its GT 86 sports coupe onto the market. The Japanese have already announced the price of the 200 hp model.

Toyota fans had to wait a long time for a sporty vehicle. It's over on September 15th. Then the new GT 86 sports coupé is available from dealers from 29,990 euros. The GT 86 has rear-wheel drive, a boxer engine and weighs only 1.2 tons and is 4.24 meters long. The lightweight, developed together with Subaru, undercuts competitors such as Nissan 370 Z or Porsche Cayman by at least 200 kilograms. However, the Toyota has to get by with less power.

With 147 kW / 200 PS at a maximum of 7,000 tours, the performance is nevertheless sporty. The top speed is 230 km / h, the standard sprint from 0 to 100 km / h is done in 7.2 seconds. The power is provided by a 2.0-liter boxer engine with four cylinders, which works with a mixture of intake manifold and direct injection and is supposed to require an average of 6.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. A manual six-speed gearshift is standard on board, and there is an optional six-speed automatic machine for an extra charge of 1,550 euros.

The boxer engine, which is also used in the structurally identical Subaru BRZ, allows the vehicle to have a low center of gravity thanks to its low overall height, which together with an almost even weight distribution between the axles should guarantee agile handling. There is a limited-slip differential on the rear axle for even more momentum in the curve. The Japanese are systematically sporting when it comes to anti-skid ESP: unlike other models from the safety-conscious brand, it can be switched off in the GT 86. The price is hardly surprising.
