Vehicles from the Ingolstadt car manufacturer Audi are selling splendidly worldwide. Only in Germany of all places was there a significant decline in August.

A significant drop in sales in the home market of Germany slowed the car manufacturer Audi slightly on its record drive in August. Around 66,400 cars were delivered worldwide in August, 4.2 percent more than in the same month last year, said Audi AG on Friday in Ingolstadt. In July and June the increase in sales was 9.2 and 11 percent respectively. However, Audi Board Member for Sales Ralph Weyler reiterated the expectations for the year as a whole: "We will also close this year with record sales worldwide." In the first eight months of this year, the company delivered 656,600 vehicles, 9.2 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.

Hope for the new Audi A4

In Germany, sales by the VW subsidiary fell 7.7 percent to 18,063 cars in August. The company justified the development with the phasing out of the A4 volume model, the successor generation of which is to be presented at the upcoming IAA motor show (September 13 to 23) in Frankfurt. From January to August, the manufacturer's deliveries in Germany were slightly 0.7 percent below the previous year's level of 168,083 units sold.

In contrast, Audi was able to grow significantly in China, where 9116 vehicles were sold, 24 percent more than in the same month last year. In the USA, Audi sales increased by 7.1 percent to 7,620 cars. The UK market, traditionally strong for Audi, recorded an increase in sales of almost 18 percent to 3,215 cars sold. (dpa)
