Smart is looking for new ways out of the crisis. The DaimlerChrysler subsidiary will be testing a project with a new drive in Great Britain from November.
The ailing DaimlerChrysler subsidiary Smart is testing vehicles with electric drives in Great Britain from autumn. From November around 100 “Smart Fortwo ev” (electric vehicles) will be in use, as the company announced on Monday in Böblingen. The vehicles will be offered to selected customers as part of a pilot project. A spokesman said it was not yet known when the electric smart could be available for customers in Germany.
Costs of two cents per kilometer
According to the information, the electric models have an electric motor with an output of 30 kW / 41 PS. The operating costs per kilometer are 0.02 euros and thus below those of a petrol model with 0.06 euros fuel costs per kilometer. The electric smart should reach a top speed of 120 km / h. With a consumption of 12 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers, this results in a range of 110 kilometers. A dead battery can be charged overnight.
