The small car Smart will soon be available from DaimlerChrysler with an automatic start-stop system. The Stuttgart-based company has a hybrid drive up its sleeve.
The Smart will soon also be available with an automatic start-stop system. As DaimlerChrysler announced in Stuttgart, the small car is to be equipped with a system in the course of this year that automatically switches off the engine, for example at red lights, and starts it again before it starts. With this, the developers promise consumption benefits, which have not yet been quantified.
According to initial information from company circles, the technology will initially be used in combination with gasoline engines. There, the most economical unit with 45 kW / 61 PS consumes an average of 4.7 liters per 100 kilometers. This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 112 grams per kilometer.
The company has not yet announced when exactly the start-stop system will be introduced and how high the surcharge will be. At the same time, the engineers were also working on a hybrid drive for the two-seater, which was already ready for series production. Here, too, the company still leaves the date for a possible market launch open. (dpa)
