More fuel efficient drives are one of the big themes at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In addition, the various luxury cars are the focus of interest in California this time too.

The Americans are slowly getting a taste for it. Even if there is still no state to be made in the land of unlimited possibilities with small cars, the time seems ripe for a gentle change. Apart from the Smart Fortwo and some revised versions of the Toyota offshoot Scion, there are no real small cars, but SUVs, pick-ups and luxury limousines will in future also focus on fuel savings in the number one automotive country.
Middle class in focus
You don't really believe that when you see the new Dodge Viper SRT-10 or the new Nissan Skyline GT-R, which recently celebrated its world premiere in Tokyo. The focus of this year's Los Angeles Auto Show, which takes place from November 16 to 25 in the Convention Center of the metropolis on the Pacific Ocean, is on mid-range vehicles. The new Chevrolet Malibu, which is said to be close on the heels of the bestselling Toyota Camry, received many advance praise. Toyota presents the new Corolla in Los Angeles. The sporty Hondas present the new Accord in the exhibition center. The new Infiniti EX35, which will also come to Europe next year and will compete against the mid-range SUVs from the BMW X3 and Co., is elegant and sporty. The Bullitt is a dark green feast for the eyes,a sports version of the successful Ford Mustang, which is supposed to commemorate the legendary film from 1968. The 315 hp Ford will hit the North American market next year in a limited edition of 7700 vehicles.
Numerous hybrid premieres

Los Angeles has made a name for itself in the past few years with numerous hybrid premieres. It won't be any different this year. These include the mighty SUV Cadillac Escalade, the Chevrolet Malibu and the Nissan Altima. "Clean Diesel" technology based on low-sulfur fuels is new in the USA. Volkswagen is showing the new VW Jetta TDI at the fair. It is the first “clean diesel vehicle” to be sold in all 50 US states. Honda is showing pioneering drive technology with a fuel cell model that follows the FCX concept study. With the still young compact C30 ReCharge, Volvo is also presenting an interesting variant of hybrid technology. With the study of the ?? HM ?? a seven-seater SUV above the Sorento.
Luxury vehicles in demand

However, California is not only considered a market for alternative drives, but primarily the most important regional market for luxury vehicles in the USA. The Los Angeles Auto Show has become an important stage for luxury cars and sports cars. Audi wants to show the little brother of the successful Q7 for the first time with the Q5. The models Porsche 911 GT2, the new Jaguar XF and the extravagant super sports car Lamborghini Reventon, which even outshines the Ferrari 430 Scuderia with a price of one million euros, are fast, elegant and expensive. However, Porsche is not only showing its latest 911, but also the Cayenne Hybrid and the Lohner-Porsche from 1900 with electric drive. It is considered to be one of the first zero-emission vehicles and was a pioneer for hybrid drives.
The BMW 1 Series Coupe tii, the tenth generation of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and the new Subaru WRX STi also make strong appearances. Something is now also happening in the USA with compact vehicles: Volkswagen is introducing a new member of its “New Small Family” concept series. The “Design Challenge” provides an unusual look into the future of the automobile. Eight teams from the region show how artificial intelligence and automotive technology can lead to the ?? Robocar 2057 ?? merge. Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen, among others, are starting with their visions of the future.
13 world premieres
The Los Angeles Auto Show has worked its way up to number two on the American trade fair calendar, alongside the Detroit Motor Show. In the next few years, they want to overtake the unpopular winter fair in the unprepossessing Detroit in mid-January. The Los Angeles Auto Show first took place exactly 100 years ago. In 1907, the public marveled at exactly 99 cars on a converted roller skating rink. Today the contrast could hardly be greater: I present a good 1000 current vehicles in the ultra-modern LA Convention Center, including 13 world and around 40 North American premieres. Around one million visitors are expected at the Convention Center on South Figueroa Street by November 25th.
