Almost three quarters of the jammed gas pedals and briefly missing brakes have been repaired in the important US market. But the slipping floor mats, which in the worst case could block the accelerator and have already led to several accidents, have only been replaced in a good quarter of the affected cars.
Significant progress
The North American quality boss Steve St. Angelo spoke on Wednesday at the US headquarters in Torrance, California, despite everything of "significant progress". The problem of the slipping mats has been public since last year, the accelerator pedals and brakes were added at the beginning of the year. The automaker is recalling 8.5 million cars worldwide, most of them in the United States. In Germany, Toyota wanted to have solved the problems by the end of May.
