If you find Porsche and Lamborghini too boring, you can buy this road-legal racing car: The Mosler MT900 GTR-XX weighs only 980 kilograms and develops 620 hp.

By Sebastian Viehmann

In order to make a car faster, racing car designers like to tweak two variables: power and weight. So it is not the horsepower figures that really say something about the performance of a car, but the power to weight ratio. With the Mosler MT900 GTR-XX with a combat weight between 980 and 1120 kilograms, each individual horsepower only has to take care of 1.58 kilograms of the car. The racing car rocket weighs almost 400 kilograms less than a Golf GTI - with three times the engine power.

Eight-cylinder from Corvette Z06

Traditionally, the mega flounders from the American small-series manufacturer Mosler, which are approved for the road, hardly differ from the vehicles used in racing. The GTR-XX is no exception. The car is powered by the seven-liter eight-cylinder engine from the Corvette Z06. In the GTR-XX, the high-performance machine develops a torque of 673 Newton meters and develops 620 hp at 5100 revolutions.

From a standing start, the yellow rocket reaches 100 km / h in just 3 seconds, and a speed of 200 is reached in 8.7 seconds. There is no official information on the maximum speed. But one can assume that there are only a few ground-based means of transport that can compete with a Mosler.

Ceramic brake

A sequential 6-speed gearbox takes care of the power transmission. A 6-piston ceramic brake system is to ensure that the US projectile comes to a stop in time if necessary. Many details of the vehicle are trimmed to save weight, including the newly developed exhaust system made of titanium. Even the audio system had to give up: the tailor-made system, including carbon speakers, weighs just 4.5 kilograms. The GTR-XX is up to 150 kilos lighter than its predecessor, depending on the equipment.

In addition to extreme performance, Mosler also promises a high level of passive safety for its cars. The passenger cell integrated into the carbon monocoque passed the demanding US NCAP crash test with distinction, according to the manufacturer. In terms of roll-over and side crash behavior, the racing flounder even achieved the best values of all road vehicles measured so far in the USA.

At least 187,5000 euros expensive

The racing dream costs 187,500 euros excluding VAT, the final price varies depending on the equipment. In 2009 there will be a further increase in performance - in the form of a special series with a biturbo engine limited to 10 copies. "If there is a demand from experienced automobile enthusiasts, the vehicles are built and only handed in after driver training with racing instructors at the Nürburgring," reveals Christof Flugel from Mosler Germany.

The super sports car manufacturer was founded by the American financial investor Warren Mosler. The car fanatic and honorary professor at the University of Cambridge plans to take his car to the start of the Le Mans 24-hour race in the near future. Private racing teams have already won the Daytona 24 Hours, the 1000 kilometers of Spa and the British and Spanish GT championships with Mosler racing cars.
