Karl-Friedrich Stracke can inherit Nick Reilly as head of Opel. The concerns of the employee side have been refuted by the parent company General Motors.
Nothing stands in the way of the change in leadership at the top of the crisis-ridden car manufacturer Opel. The employee side on the supervisory board no longer has any concerns about the upcoming personnel rogue, said Opel general works council chief Klaus Franz on Friday in Rüsselsheim. He is also vice-chairman of the supervisory board of the car manufacturer in need of renovation.
GM promises binding declaration
Background to the initial concerns: The US parent company General Motors (GM) had wanted to heave its previous chief developer Karl-Friedrich Stracke to the head of Adam Opel AG on April 1st. The previous chairman of the board, Nick Reilly, was to move to the top of the Opel supervisory board at the same time - and to be installed as head of GM's European business via Stracke.
With this plan, the employees saw their co-determination in danger and feared a new structure over Adam Opel AG. As Franz announced, GM has now assured that this will not happen. The US mother has declared that "binding", writes Franz. The employee side on the supervisory board therefore see the details of Stracke and Reilly in the meantime "positively". According to Franz, the election should take place next Monday (April 11th). (dpa)
