Land Rover presents its new series at the Paris Motor Show. However, customers will have to wait a little longer for the Range Rover Evoque, which is initially only available as a two-door model.

Land Rover will initially offer three engines for the new Evoque. Before the public premiere of the compact SUV at the Paris Motor Show (October 2 to 17), the British manufacturer announced some details. Accordingly, the Evoque should start in summer 2011 as a two-door. A version with four doors is already in preparation.

Panorama roof for an extra charge

The most economical model will be a 2.2 liter diesel with 110 kW / 150 hp, front-wheel drive and an automatic start-stop system. Land Rover specifies CO2 emissions as 130 g / km. This would mean that the car would consume around four liters. The diesel is also available with 140 kW / 190 PS. For the time being, the only petrol engine available is a 2.0-liter unit with direct injection and turbocharger. The Otto engine has an output of 177 kW / 240 PS and, according to the manufacturer, combines the driving performance of a V6 engine with the consumption of a four-cylinder.

With the new engines and the new body, which is around 20 centimeters flatter and a good 40 centimeters shorter than the Range Rover Sport, the Evoque will be the "lightest and most efficient Range Rover of all time," it said. A nearly full-coverage panorama roof, a chassis with electronically adjustable dampers and an automatic parking system are to be available for a surcharge. The company has not yet provided any information on prices or other equipment details. (dpa / tmn)
