At Audi, the successor to the A4 convertible is in the starting blocks. The open four-seater will in future bear the abbreviation A5 and will be available at dealerships in spring 2009, announced the manufacturer in Ingolstadt.
Like its predecessor, the open A5 also has a classic fabric top, which in all versions can be lowered at the push of a button as standard. A version that is specially insulated against driving noise is available at an additional cost. The electro-hydraulic system takes 15 seconds to open and 17 seconds to close. A new folding mechanism provides more space in the trunk: even with the top down, the volume is only reduced by 60 to 320 liters, according to Audi. On top of that, the rear seat can be folded down so that up to 750 liters can be loaded through a 70 centimeter wide hatch. Other innovations in the interior are automatic belt feeders, head space heating for the front seats and a special leather coating so that the upholstery does not heat up as much in the sun.
Optionally with stepless Multitronic
The open A5 will start with three petrol and two diesels, which cover a range from 132 kW / 180 PS to 195 kW / 265 PS. The four and six cylinders are all direct injection, four of which are charged with a turbo. Audi specifies their consumption at 6.3 to 8.6 liters, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 167 to 205 grams per kilometer (g / km). You can choose between manual six-speed gearboxes, the continuously variable Multitronic or a dual-clutch gearbox with seven gears. There is also quattro all-wheel drive for the more powerful models. Prices start at 37,300 euros.
Sport version with a more powerful engine
At the same time as the A5 Cabrio, the S5 sports version, which is visually differentiated, is given a more dynamic equipment and a more powerful engine. Under the bonnet is a three-liter V6 engine with a supercharger that delivers 245 kW / 333 hp and 440 Nm. It accelerates the car to 100 km / h in 5.6 seconds and reaches a maximum of 250 km / h. Its consumption is 9.6 liters and CO2 emissions are 228 g / km. Audi specifies the price at 61,400 euros. (dpa / gms)
