Dieter Zetsche will lead the company until 2019. The successor to the long-time Daimler boss seems to have already been found.
Daimler is preparing for the future in terms of personnel. Dieter Zetsche's contract was extended by three years on Tuesday. The Daimler boss will now lead the company until December 31, 2019. "Daimler is more successful than ever before. This proves that Dieter Zetsche has not only pursued and implemented the right strategy in coordination with the Supervisory Board. He can also get the company's employees enthusiastic about ambitious goals. With the contract extension we ensure the necessary continuity the company's top management for sustainable success, "said the chairman of the supervisory board, Manfred Bischoff," we look forward to continuing our excellent collaboration with Dieter Zetsche."
Zetsche has been a member of the Executive Board since 1998 and has been its Chairman since January 1, 2006. This makes the engineer, who was born in Istanbul in 1953, the longest-serving autoboss in Germany.
Källenius with a stopover as heir to the throne
Ola Källenius is increasingly emerging as his successor. The current head of sales was appointed Chief Development Officer on Tuesday and will be inheriting from Thomas Weber at the end of the year. The 61-year-old is leaving for reasons of age.
"Research and development are two key fields in the automotive industry in order to permanently occupy a top position. With Ola Källenius, we are appointing an experienced board member with extensive knowledge of the car business as a board member for research and development. At the same time, we are making the board younger and more international," said Bischoff. "With his economic education and his numerous technical positions within the group, Ola Källenius has the expertise, Daimler's position as a technology leaderto consolidate and expand."
Weber has been responsible for development for 13 years

Before his time as Chief Sales Officer, Källenius was head of the AMG tuning division. In addition to the 46-year-old native of Sweden, board members Wolfgang Bernhard, Hubertus Troska and Bodo Uebber were also seen as potential successors for Zetsche.
Weber had been responsible for research and development since 2004 and had been appointed to the board the year before. "Thomas Weber shaped research and development at Daimler and, above all, at Mercedes-Benz Cars for more than 13 years. During this time, he laid important foundations, comprehensively renewed the entire car product portfolio and prepared the company for the future of mobility. He has thus made a major contribution to the success of Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars today. We would like to thank him very much for that, "said the Chairman of the Supervisory Board. (AG / TF)
