Toyota sends the iQ-EV to the start. However, even in Japan and the USA, the small electric car is not available to every driver.

Toyota cut the consumption of its iQ-EV electric car again shortly before its market launch. The small car should only need 10.4 kWh per 100 kilometers and is therefore, according to the manufacturer, the most economical electric car in the world. Competitive models such as the Peugeot Ion and Nissan Leaf have a standard consumption of just under 17 to 22 kWh.

With a battery capacity of 12 kWh, the Toyota should offer a range of around 100 kilometers per battery charge. The electric version of the iQ will be made available to selected users in Japan and the USA at the end of the year. In addition, a fuel cell car will complement the range of emission-free vehicles from 2015.

The redesigned Toyota electric vehicle iQ-EV, called eQ in Japan, has a new high-performance lithium-ion battery. The world's lowest energy consumption of 104 Wh per kilometer, despite the comparatively low capacity of 12 kWh, enables a range of 100 kilometers per charge and a top speed of 125 km / h. In this way the space requirement of the battery can be minimized.

With a 220V alternating current connection, the battery can be fully charged in around three hours. Toyota will make eQ available to regional authorities and selected users in Japan and the US from December 2012. The RAV-EV developed jointly with Tesla has also been part of this demonstration project in the USA since September. (SP-X)
