BMW, Daimler and Audi want to accelerate the breakthrough with Here in Asia. The three car manufacturers are giving up ten percent of their shares for three Asian investors.

The three car manufacturers BMW, Daimler and Audi are bringing Asian investors on board with their map service Here. A total of ten percent of the former Nokia subsidiary is to go to the Chinese map provider Navinfo, the Chinese Internet company Tencent and the state fund GIC from Singapore, as the companies announced on Tuesday at the European headquarters of Here in Eindhoven.

The Chinese market is to be rolled out together with Navinfo. Financial details were not given.

Here as an open platform

The three German car companies bought Here for around 2.6 billion euros from the telecommunications supplier Nokia in order to develop their own platform for location-based services and precise maps for future self-driving vehicles.

It is an unusual cooperation between competing manufacturers for previous conditions. The three car manufacturers had always emphasized that they operate Here as an open platform and, if necessary, also want to win new partners. Here already supplies systems and data for Hyundai, Toyota or Volvo. (AG / dpa)
