VW Golf VII Comes Earlier

Volkswagen prefers to introduce the seventh edition of the classic Golf. The Golf VII will be celebrating a premiere for the entire group.

According to a press report, Volkswagen will launch the seventh edition of its Golf compact car as early as November 2012. This is reported by the industry and business newspaper "Automobilwoche", citing sources from the direct environment of VW CEO Martin Winterkorn. So far, many industry observers had only expected the Golf VII for 2013.

Introduction of the modular transverse matrix

The next Golf will be the first model from the Volkswagen brand based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB). Winterkorn praises the module strategy as a key competitive advantage of VW. According to internal VW documents, "currently 37 vehicles for five brands in our group" are being built on the highly flexible vehicle architecture of the MQB. The new Audi A3 will begin in the summer of 2012.

VW is working on consumption-optimized downsizing engines for the Golf VII. An electric version of the five-seater is planned for 2013. As usual, VW will not fix the sales price until shortly before the market launch. Nevertheless, it is already said that the Golf VII with electric drive will be "affordable". For this purpose, VW is planning a "modularization of batteries, electric motors and power electronics in the group - regardless of the longitudinal and transverse construction kit". According to the specification at VW, the electric traction should not cause losses. "In order to be economical in e-mobility, further economies of scale are required in the next few years.
