VW gives the Polo a new outfit. The Wolfsburg-based company is putting on a cross variant for this. But this small car is not really intended for the terrain.
At the Geneva Motor Show (March 4th to 14th), VW is showing a small car even for astray with the new Cross Polo. The five-door model with an off-road look has a chassis that is 15 millimeters higher than the standard version and dark plastic panels in the lower area of the body. These should protect against scratches in the event that the Cross Polo is driven over hill and dale. But primarily, the extras serve to spice up the outfit of the small car.
Integrated fog lights
At the front, the front-wheel drive car has an anthracite-colored apron with integrated fog lights and a wide air inlet with a honeycomb insert. A silver-colored cover on the lower edge of the air inlet is intended to indicate an underrun protection. On the side, not only the sills, but also the wheel arch covers are kept dark, as are the bumpers in the rear. As a contrast, the Cross Polo has silver roof rails on its head, and the shells of the exterior mirrors are always painted silver.
The drive range includes six motors. On the petrol side, there is a 1.2-liter engine with 51 kW / 70 PS, a 1.4-liter drive with 63 kW / 85 PS and a supercharged 1.2-liter TSI with 77 kW / 105 PS Choice. The two more powerful engines can be equipped with the seven-speed dual clutch transmission for a surcharge. On the diesel side, there is a 1.6-liter engine with an output of 55 kW / 75 PS, 66 kW / 90 PS and 77 kW / 105 PS. The 90 PS variant can also be ordered with the DSG
The equipment of the new Cross Polo includes, among other things, two-tone sport seats, a leather steering wheel, electric windows and a tire pressure monitor. The trunk volume is 280 to 952 liters. The sturdy small car will be available at German dealerships from May. The prices are not yet known, but should be around 15,500 euros. (mid)
