The trip on the highways will take place contemplatively next weekend. In contrast, public transport should be used in the big cities.
Even on the third Sunday in Advent, the ADAC does not expect any major obstructions on the highways. Only the construction sites, the number of which has fallen to around 200, could slow down traffic. Construction work on the following routes could lead to a halt:
• A 1 Cologne - Dortmund and Osnabrück - Bremen
• A 3 Frankfurt - Cologne
• A 4 Erfurt - Chemnitz
• A 5 Basel - Karlsruhe, Heidelberg - Darmstadt and Frankfurt - Kassel
• A 6 Saarbrücken - Kaiserslautern
• A 7 Kassel - Hanover - Hamburg
• A 8 Karlsruhe - Stuttgart - Munich
• A 14 Leipzig - Nossen
• A 27 Bremerhaven - Bremen
• A 45 Hagen - Giessen
• A 61 Hockenheim - Speyer
While it will be rather quiet on the freeways, the ADAC expects even more hustle and bustle in the inner cities than before. Parking spaces in particular are becoming scarce. That is why the traffic club recommends using public transport for Christmas strolls. If you can't do without the car, you should drive very defensively in view of the prevailing weather conditions and keep a large distance so that there is enough space to slide.
It is advisable to take a look at the traffic jam indicator on the Autogazette before starting the journey. This shows the traffic jams on the German autobahns and updates every five minutes. (AG)
