Last year, Audi took the lead among German premium manufacturers in terms of sales. In the coming year, the Center Automotive Research expects another change at the top.
The long-standing leader among premium manufacturers is back. After Audi took the top position in sales last year, according to the Center Automotive Research (CAR) at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Mercedes will be ahead again next year.
Mercedes upswing thanks to the A-Class
The manufacturer from Stuttgart had led before BMW and Audi for decades, before the Munich-based company was ahead for the first time in 2005 and six years later Audi - due to increased sales in China - replaced Mercedes. The gap between the three providers is very small.
According to CAR, Mercedes will get a boost from the new A-Class, which is coming onto the market in a much more attractive way with new engines and a new design. However, the institute of the auto expert Ferdinand Dudenhöffer expects another change in 2015. Then BMW is to distance Mercedes with 1.68 million and Audi with 1.63 million sales with forecast 1.76 million sales per year.
