The senior employees will not be spared from the downsizing at the Volkswagen Group. According to a media report, brand boss Wolfgang Bernhard is also planning massive cuts in this area.
According to press information, VW brand boss Wolfgang Bernhard wants to cut 20 percent of the 1,000 jobs at management level in the medium term. This affects around 200 employees from department head level up, reports “manager magazin”, citing corporate groups. Bernhard had announced that around 20,000 jobs in the VW Group are at risk because of the necessary restructuring of the core brand. According to industry circles, the subject of reorganization should also be on the agenda of a meeting of the Supervisory Board on Wednesday.
Deletions inevitable
A VW spokesman said, "Just as jobs have to be cut in the tariff area, job cuts are also manageable for managers." VW handled this in the past as well. "The size of the downsizing in the management area is based on that in the tariff area."
According to the magazine, some of the executives will have to leave. As with the rest of the workforce, Bernhard relies on early retirement and severance pay offers. Top managers, i.e. all employees from division manager level, should stop at the age of 60, according to the magazine.
