At Porsche, plans are growing for a new model. According to Porsche boss Matthias Müller, the new sports car will appear in the price range in which Ferrari is currently represented on the market as "comfortable and unrivaled".

The sports car manufacturer Porsche wants to increase sales with a new model and attack the Italian rival Ferrari. "It has always irritated me that the 911 stops somewhere at 250,000 euros and only then goes on again with the 918 for 750,000 euros," said CEO Matthias Müller of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung". "In between there is a - relatively comfortable and unrivaled - Ferrari. We have to get in there." The model for the new car is the sports car 959 from the 80s. "I could imagine a model like this in a price range of 250,000 euros to 400,000 euros."

No serious problems thanks to growth markets

In view of the global economic worries, Müller expects consequences for the automotive industry, but sees his company controlled by VW as well armed. "I can imagine that global auto sales will soon stagnate or even decline," he said. Some manufacturers might lower their prices against this background, but this is out of the question for Porsche. In the event that the crisis also hits his company, he will subject the company to "strict cost and investment management" in a disciplined manner.

Müller also relies on the growth markets. "People will continue to buy cars in the future. If markets like India, Asia, South America and Russia continue to develop, I don't see any serious problems."
