Volkswagen has incorporated Italdesign Giugaro into the VW family. The design specialist should "help shape VW's growth strategy worldwide," said VW boss Martin Winterkorn.
The car maker Volkswagen is expanding its family. After years of collaboration, the Wolfsburg-based company takes over the Italian design specialist Italdesign Giugiaro. The group has a 90 percent stake in the Turin-based company. VW announced on Tuesday.
First designed golf
«With Italdesign we are participating in one of the most renowned and traditional design and development companies in the automotive industry. The company is the figurehead for creative Italian automotive design and has helped shape the face of the automotive industry worldwide,”said CEO Martin Winterkorn. He expects an important contribution to VW's global growth strategy. "Italdesign will become a permanent member of the worldwide Volkswagen family," said Winterkorn.
VW has been working with Italdesign for decades. Company founder Giorgetto Giugiaro designed the first Golf, among other things. But designs for the Passat, Scirocco and Audi 80 also come from the Italian pen.
Promising perspective
DG was founded in 1968 by Giorgetto Giugiaro and Aldo Mantovani in Turin. Both founders are considered pioneers of modern Italian automotive design. The company employs around 800 people and has a turnover of more than 100 million euros.
