Ford released the first pictures of the new Ka earlier this morning. In the spring of 2009 it will be in the car dealerships and will initially be shown in Paris in October.
First pictures: In October the new Ford Ka will be shown in public for the first time. At the Paris Motor Show (October 4 to 19, 2008), Ford is showing how the next generation of the now twelve-year-old classic should continue. During this time it came off the production line 1.4 million times and received a lot of praise and criticism.
Preserve old virtues
The manufacturer doesn't reveal much about the new model. In a press release it says: "With self-confident style, dynamic driving characteristics and many practical advantages, the completely newly developed two-door model brings all the virtues that characterized the first-generation Ford Ka in the past twelve years into an attractive new form." What is known, however, is that the new Ka shares the architecture with the 3.55-meter-long Fiat 500 and is also built in Tychy, Poland. Two petrol engines with 51 kW / 69 PS and 74 kW / 100 PS and a diesel engine with 55 kW / 75 PS could be considered for the drive.
Kinetic design
At least the shape looks much more appealing and contemporary and approaches what Ford currently calls kinetic design, and cultivated with models such as the new SUV Kuga or the Fiesta, which will start in the coming weeks. The long headlights in the fenders, the shoulders indicated on the rear lights, the side edge lines on the door surfaces make the Ka a very modern appearance.
Sales start in February 2009
The old rather agile Ka is 3.62 meters long, has four airbags in the standard equipment and can be switched relatively crisp. His space in the rear is naturally moderate and ESP is still a foreign word for him. It will be interesting to see how far Ford succeeds in undercutting the current weight of almost 1000 kilograms. The old Ka is currently available from around 9600 euros. The new one can be ordered from November and should then come to the car dealerships in February. (AG)
