Keep your eyes open on your vacation trip through Italy. The local carabinieri take tougher action at too high a speed and alcohol at the wheel.

In Italy, drivers now face higher penalties for disregarding traffic rules. The Auto Club Europa (ACE) in Stuttgart points this out.

According to ACE, the tightened sanctions have been in force since the beginning of August. If the maximum speed is exceeded by 40 to 60 kilometers per hour (km / h), a fine of 370 to 1458 euros is due. In addition, there is a driver's license withdrawal for three to six months - previously it was one to three months. In the case of holidaymakers, the withdrawal of the driving license applies for the period of stay in Italy.

Six months of driving license is threatened

According to the ACE, drinking and driving is also severely punished: at 0.5 to 0.8 per mille, a fine of 500 to 2200 euros is due. In addition, there is a prison sentence of up to one month, the driver's license is revoked for three to six months. It will also be more expensive for drivers who use their mobile phones while driving without a hands-free system: In such a case, a fine of 148 to 594 euros is due - previously it was 70 to 285 euros. In the event of repetition, the driver's license will be withdrawn for one to three months.
