Bittersweet news from Sachsenanhalt: Flashing is no longer worth it. At least the Salzlandkreis fears more expenditure than income from its mobile speed trap. Recently there have been fewer and fewer conspicuous drivers.
In Saxony-Anhalt, one district does not allow speeding offenders to flash for cost reasons. "For economic reasons we are stopping," confirmed the spokeswoman for the Salzlandkreis, Ingrid Schildhauer, to corresponding press reports. The police and larger communities continued to control the pace.
The district's leasing contract for the car with built-in flash system had expired, and the technology also had to be replaced, the spokeswoman explained. This was not worth it. The district is also not obliged to flash speed offenders. "This is a voluntary task for the district," said the spokeswoman.
Police are still on the lookout
In the past year, the district earned 63,400 euros with the flash of speed sinners - and the trend is falling. In addition, the district is only allowed to flash in communities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants - and with the amalgamation of communities in recent years, the possible area of application has also become smaller.
Drivers still have to be careful: In the cities of Bernburg, Aschersleben and Staßfurt, the municipalities are flashing, according to the district itself. In addition, the police also ensure that traffic regulations are observed and asks speed offenders to pay. (dpa)
