For the time being, the oil company BP does not attach any importance to electromobility - at least in terms of charging stations to be built. In the foreseeable future there will only be a single-digit number of charging stations in Germany.

The Aral parent company BP does not want to rush into electromobility in Germany. In the foreseeable future, the oil company will only sell "a single-digit number" of petrol stations in addition to gasoline and diesel, as well as electricity for electric cars, said the boss of British Petrol Europe, Wolfgang Langhoff, on Thursday evening in Düsseldorf. In total, Aral operates more than 2,400 filling stations in Germany.

No economic pressure

The aim of the pilot projects is to get to know the entire process. According to the company, there are currently two Aral filling stations of this type for electricity. One problem is the long time it takes to recharge, said the manager. The petrol stations should not become parking lots.

So far, however, the economic pressure on BP to sell electricity has been low. Last year, the mineral oil group in Germany increased sales of mineral oil products by 7.3 percent to 30.7 million tons.

According to BP Langhoff, this benefited from the good economic development in Germany and the low fuel prices, which made many consumers more interested in driving. In addition, in view of the political crises in some holiday regions, more people decided to take a car vacation in Germany or neighboring countries, said Langhoff. (dpa)
