Saab wants to break into new times. The new 9-5 should initiate the departure into a secure future.
Saab is currently converting on different levels. On the one hand, the GM subsidiary longs for sale to the Swedish sports car manufacturer Koenigsegg, on the other hand, a sedan developed under the rule of General Motors should give the traditional brand from Sweden a strong start under a new flag.
References to brand heritage
According to Jan Åke Jonsson, Managing Director Saab, "a new era will be started" with the new generation of the 9-5, which will be arriving in the showrooms in the spring of next year and will celebrate its world premiere at the IAA. Based on the platform of the Insignia, the five-meter flagship was implanted with the beefy design of the Aero X, which is intended to refer to the beginnings of the Saab brand as an aircraft manufacturer. A long bonnet and a relatively short rear underline the sporty ambitions
. In the interior, too, the airplane-like head-up display evokes memories of the past. The ignition key is still inserted between the seats, but the two engines available for the model launch are now started at the push of a button.
Prices not yet known

You can choose between a 2.0 turbo diesel with 160 hp, which should emit only 139 grams of CO2 per kilometer, or a 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine with 220 hp. There is also the six-cylinder 2.8 V6 Turbo with 300 hp.
A small 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 180 hp follows shortly thereafter, together with a 2.0-liter bio-power unit designed for E85. The company has not yet announced prices for the Audi A6, BMW 5 series or the E-Class, but the start of the new era will not be cheap. However, the traditional brand does not come close to the price structure of the supposedly new owner. (AG)
