After the Minister of Economic Affairs zu Guttenberg signaled many open questions about the rescue plan presented by the company at the weekend, we are now talking to each other.
The management of the ailing car maker Opel met with Federal Minister of Economics Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg (CSU) in Berlin on Monday morning to explain the concept for the future of the company. GM Europe boss Carl-Peter Forster, Opel boss Hans Demant and the chairman of the general works council, Klaus Peter Franz, take part in the meeting. Opel had previously stated that the company needed government aid of 3.3 billion euros. At the weekend, however, Guttenberg spoke of many open questions that management had to answer.
More deliberations this week
In the course of the week, the federal government and the federal states will continue to advise Opel locations. State guarantees or loans are under discussion. However, the parties reject a direct participation of the state in a future European company. Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) had recently given Opel hope for state support, provided a viable future concept was presented. (dpa)
