Hyundai will launch the Genesis at the end of the year. The coupe marks the start.
The Korean car manufacturer Hyundai is planning to introduce its flagship Genesis in Germany. The coupé version is to be launched at the end of 2009. An introduction of the sedan is also likely, according to Werner Frey, Managing Director of Hyundai Germany. Both body variants have been on the market in Asia and the USA since 2008.
Price over 25,000 euros
The 4.63 meter long rear-wheel drive Genesis Coupé should cost over 25,000 euros in the entry-level version, but remain well below 30,000 euros. At the start there is the three-door with a 166 kW / 226 PS four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine. A decision has not yet been made on the introduction of a 233 kW / 316 PS 3.8-liter V6 variant, which would be priced between 35,000 and 40,000 euros. This would make the model cheaper than its competitors Infiniti G37, Mercedes-Benz CLK and or Nissan 370 Z in any case.

Should the group decide to launch the 4.98 meter long sedan, only the six-cylinder version would probably come to Germany. Frey would like to offer them for a competitive price of around 40,000 euros. Frey has no illusions about the market opportunities of the Genesis sedan, which competes against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Audi A6, among others. Large limousines from the Far East generally have a hard time in Europe. Nevertheless, he considers the step important: "The Genesis would be good for our image." (mid)
