Suzuki orders around two million vehicles to workshops around the world. In Germany, too, some older vehicles are affected, as a spokesman for the Autogazette announced.
The Japanese small car specialist Suzuk i Motor is recalling around two million cars, most of them in Japan. The reason are possible defects in ignition locks, as the carmaker announced on Wednesday. 1.9 million cars are affected in Japan. It is the biggest recall so far.
No abnormalities in Germany
In some cases, ignition locks caught fire, it said. However, the company did not have any reports of injuries. Nine models are affected. Suzuki had previously recalled 125,000 cars including the Solio model because of the same problem.
Some vehicles are also affected in Germany. As a spokesman for Suzuki Germany announced to Autogazette, the first generation Ignis model must be recalled. How many units of the small car sold from 2000 to 2003 are still on the streets in Germany is unclear. The Germany department has therefore requested a keeper query from the KBA.
The owners will then be promptly informed by Suzuki Germany so that a remedy can be taken. However, so far there have been no reports of possible problems with this component on the German market, the spokesman said. (AG / TF / dpa)
