Due to the new WLTP emissions test, Volkswagen has to park new vehicles at BER Airport in Berlin. The reason: there are still no approvals.
The company has rented space on the site to park cars with delivery delays, said a VW spokesman. The "Handelsblatt" had previously reported on it.
The background to the problems are new emissions tests based on the WLTP test cycle. From September 1st, cars can only be registered that have passed this new test procedure.
Approvals from KBA are missing
VW is therefore already pre-producing numerous cars that are built to pass the test procedure. However, the approvals for many of these models by the Federal Motor Transport Authority are currently still missing.
Throughout the group, the changeover to the WLTP process could lead to delivery delays in the case of 200,000 to 250,000 vehicles, the spokesman said. Part of it will be parked in the rented parking spaces. "After our company holidays at the end of July, we will have more approvals," said the spokesman. In addition to BER, VW is currently also using its own test site in Ehra-Lessin near Wolfsburg. "We are looking into renting more space," said the spokesman. (dpa)
