The Association of the Automotive Industry still misses the hoped-for dynamic. The car market only grew slightly in June.
The German car market is not gaining momentum. The number of new registrations in July for the second time in a row increased only slightly by two percent to 262,600 vehicles, the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) announced in Frankfurt on Monday. German manufacturers performed better than foreign brands.
Export collapsed
Since the beginning of the year there has been an increase in sales of three percent, but the car market had fallen to the lowest level since reunification in the previous year due to the VAT increase. The export, which is used to success, collapsed by six percent in July. The VDA reported that the hoped-for dynamic was still missing.
However, July is traditionally a rather weak month for admission. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) speaks of an increase of 1.5 percent. Due to the high diesel prices, the proportion of petrol increased by 15.5 percent to 56.9 percent.
Smart and Daihatsu strong
In contrast, the trend towards small vehicles continued in July. The biggest gains were recorded by minis (plus 17.4 percent), utilities with an increase of 13.3 percent, as well as the middle class (plus 7.2 percent) and the compact class (plus 5.4 percent). Daihatsu recorded the largest gains with 39.1 percent and Smart with 32.7 percent.
In contrast, the upper middle class (minus 19.5 percent), mobile homes (minus 13.4 percent) and vans (minus 10.8 percent) segments in particular have to accept declining shares.
Liquid gas fleet increases
Business with liquid gas and natural gas-powered vehicles benefited from the high fuel prices in July. While the increase in natural gas was 45.3 percent, the LPG fleet grew by 210.6 percent. However, the proportion of gas-powered newly registered cars is still very low at just under one percent of the total. (AG / dpa)
