Every motor vehicle must be equipped with an approved first aid kit. This should be checked regularly.
A first aid kit must be on board in every motor vehicle. This is stipulated in paragraph 35h of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO), explains TÜV Nord in Hanover. The standard equipment of the first-aid kit includes adhesive plasters, various dressing materials, disposable gloves, a triangular cloth and scissors. Since 1998, a rescue blanket with dimensions of at least 2100 by 1600 millimeters has also been prescribed as part of the DIN 13164 standard. In addition, eight first-aid bandages instead of the four previously prescribed must be carried.
The bandage, oil pastels and safety pins have been removed from the inventory list. First aid kits of the standards DIN 13163 and DIN 13164 from 1987 may continue to be used and do not have to be retrofitted with a rescue blanket - although this makes sense in any case according to TÜV information. In general, all parts of the first-aid kit must be replaced when the expiry date has been reached or exceeded. (dpa)
