Every driver knows the situation. When changing lanes, an approaching vehicle is overlooked. To ensure that something like this does not lead to an accident, Mercedes offers a "Blind Spot Assistant" for the S and CL Class.
The Stuttgart-based car manufacturer Mercedes is now offering a so-called “blind spot assistant” for the S and CL class. As the company announced in a press release, six close-range sensors in the front and rear bumpers overgrown the area to the side and behind the car on both sides. This assistance system thus covers the blind spot that the driver would otherwise not be able to see in the exterior mirrors.
Warning symbol in the exterior mirror
If the system detects another vehicle in the monitored area, a red warning symbol in the glass of the exterior mirror informs the driver that changing lanes may be too dangerous.

If the driver does not react to this message, the red signal in the mirror glass begins to flash and an additional warning tone sounds. The "Blind Spot Assist" is offered together with other radar-based assistance systems such as the distance control system Distronic Plus, Brake Assist Plus, the Pre-Safe Brake and parking guidance, depending on the vehicle type and equipment, between 2594.20 and 3391.50 euros.
