The fuel pump is activated more often in winter than in warm months. The additional consumers in the car increase fuel consumption.
When the frost nibbles on the paintwork outside, fuel consumption increases. This is not only due to the extended cold-running phase of the engine or the increased rolling resistance of winter tires, but also to the many additional consumers so that the view remains clear and it is nice and warm inside.
Remove heavy objects
A front window heater, for example, has an electricity requirement of 540 watts, the rear window heater uses 185 watts, and the seat heater 102 watts. The combustion engine must first generate all of this energy. It needs around 0.1 liters of additional fuel for every 100 watts.
If you want to keep the additional consumption low, you can therefore immediately display the additional consumers when they are not needed. Rear window heating, seat heating, heated steering wheel and heated exterior mirrors are best deactivated as soon as they have completed their task. In addition, you should drive off quickly after the start and under no circumstances let the engine warm up.
Of course, it is also advisable not to transport unnecessary and heavy objects in the car. This also includes the roof box for skiing holidays, which is best dismantled immediately after the journey so as not to unnecessarily increase consumption. (SP-X)
