Daimler is on a consolidation course. After the good third quarter, those responsible are optimistic about the coming year.
After the third quarter, Daimler has created good conditions for the coming year. From July to September the group generated an EBIT of more than 2.231 billion euros and was thus well above the previous year's figure when 1.923 billion euros were achieved. "Our result improved further in the third quarter compared to the previous year and the previous year. This shows that the high investments in the past were correct. We will continue to invest in products and locations in order to sustain the medium and long-term success of the company to secure ", said Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche.
Daimler increases car sales by 13 percent
With the significant profits, Daimler surprised even the analysts, who had predicted growth but had not expected such a significant increase. Car sales in particular contributed to the significant profit. Daimler sold 594,900 cars and commercial vehicles worldwide in the third quarter, an increase of 13 percent. Sales rose by five percent to 30.1 billion euros.
The Mercedes-Benz brand cars alone achieved new records with 395,400 units sold and an increase of 14 percent. The brand was particularly popular in China, the USA and Western Europe. It mainly carried the expanded range of compact cars with the A and B classat. There the profits are lower than with the vehicles of the E- and S-Class. The new S-Class will only contribute to the further increase in profit in the fourth quarter and will only come into its own in the coming year. Daimler expects an operating profit of around 7.5 billion euros at the end of the year and thus a good basis for the coming year.
Daimler expects further growth
"We are continuing to systematically implement our growth offensives and efficiency programs. This is having an increasingly positive effect on our results and offers us a good starting position for 2014. We will continue to focus on achieving our goals and expect further improvements in results in the future ", says Bodo Uebber, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Finance & Controlling and Financial Services.
For 2014, Daimler expects the global passenger car market to grow by three percent, which will mainly be generated by demand in the USA and China. Stabilization at a low level is expected in Western Europe, as is the home market of Germany. (AG / TF)
