The ADAC advises motorists to pay fines from abroad as quickly as possible. A high discount can be possible with immediate payment, according to the automobile club.
Drivers should pay fines from abroad as quickly as possible. Because many countries often grant high discounts for immediate payments, the ADAC announced. If the notification is incorrect or the amount is obviously too high, drivers should appeal immediately. Information on this can always be found in the “Instructions on legal remedies” at the end of the decision, the procedures are different in each country.
Only from 70 euros is enforced
Within the EU, fines are only enforced from an amount of 70 euros. "Normally, all individual violations including the procedural fee are beyond this limit," says Christian Buric from ADAC. Because traffic sins are often more expensive abroad than in Germany. Exceeding the speed by 20 km / h costs around 170 euros in Italy, at least 165 euros in the Netherlands and Switzerland, and only a maximum of 35 euros in Germany.
It is similar when telephoning behind the wheel: Italy demands 160 euros for violating the rules, the Netherlands even demand 230 euros. In this country, drivers pay only 60 euros and get one point. However, German drivers do not get any points for traffic sins abroad, and driving bans imposed abroad are not valid in Germany. (dpa)
